Anyone who knows me knows that I'm quick to passion and am able to work in short bursts of energy. That served me well when I was a young journalist, and only had high-commitment short-term goals (interviews, articles and layout).

However, when given a long-term task, my vision was short-sighted and I often gave up quickly. That was when I decided to look into silat to solve my problem.

There are two parts to combat, long-term strategy and short term tactics. The Battle of Uhud clearly saw Rasulullah's (S.A.W.) battle strategy sense of placing archers on high to guard against the enemy coming from behind, while the infantry used tactics to clear the field. Sadly, the archers didn't understand the importance of this strategy and deserted their posts.

Silat battle strategy speaks of aiming for an outcome, but being prepared to make changes (tactics) in the immediate steps to get there. The route might be longer, but strategically you have to constantly test every possible escape angle to success.

One way of testing is the prototype, or the umpan. A silat practitioner will fake a strike to gauge his opponent's reaction. Once he has a good understanding of how the enemy moves, he takes that data and constructs a strategy around it to solve his problem.

Brash martial artists will rush headlong into a situation they aren't sure is safe or not, but is probably a well-laid trap by the enemy. Silat is full of such tricks.

Being aware of such possibilities (life challenges and unexpected outcomes) and your own abilities is key to getting from point A to point B in one piece.

It allowed me to decide on accurate measurements and test whether her current dollies and furniture size would fit the house. It also revealed some potential problems, as when Afif decides to sit on it. Therefore, some strengthening of the joints and roof is necessary.

My original intention of having the roof blue was fully vetoed by Asa, who demanded it be pink, and seconded by Alisha. Afif didn't care, he just wanted to sit on it.
