This is my late father. I didn't get to spend a lot of time with him, but the little that I have, I try to remember as much of. Be aware that as soon as your children understand language, they understand you. Every little thing you say, plants a seed in them that will birth a belief, a value, a principle, or an understanding.
I remember when I left my bicycle unlocked, and it was stolen. My father wasn't angry. He just said it'll make me be more careful in the future. I played with and destroyed his vintage camera, he just said never to play with others' possessions without permission.
However, another day, when I sprained my ankle, I got an earful, and I could see the tears in his eyes as he berated me for me being careless.
He cared more for me than for the bike or the camera, and those incidents made it clear, even if he didn't say so.
When your child breaks your favourite vase, tears your precious comics, and you scold him, and when he injures himself and you say "padan muka", it sends a message. You care more for your things than you do him.
Who is more a part of your AKU, your vase or your child?
